Lockdown information
Dear Somerset Davie Parents and Community:
During a lockdown, all students and staff
must remain in their classrooms or office. All doors and windows are
locked and no one is permitted to leave; and just as important, no one
is allowed onto the campus, including parents. Please know that when
police activity occurs near a school, the best place for your child to
be is on school grounds. Particular attention is provided by the Broward
Sheriffs Office as well as the Broward Schools Special Investigative
unit when these situations arise.
As you can imagine, lockdowns generally
result in heightened tensions at a school site. Should a lockdown occur
at our school, for whatever reason, we ask for your cooperation and
patience as we manage the situation in a calm and most importantly safe
manner. You should know that all of our staff receive emergency training
each year and we routinely go over emergency procedures and conduct
safety drills.
If the lockdown appears that it will last
for an extended period of time, or go beyond dismissal time, school
staff will do its best to notify parents, as students will not be
allowed to leave the campus until recommended by the appropriate
authorities. We will do this by telephone as well as through alerting
the media. Should there be a lockdown or an emergency, you may be
required to pick your child up from school or another designated safe
area, once it is determined that it is safe to do so. When picking up
your child, you will be required to present proper identification. The
reunification spot will be publicized to the media, as well as provided
to you by phone.
Please do not hesitate to call us at
(954)584-5528 if you have any questions. Our goal is for you to have as
much information now so that if the time ever comes, you are prepared
and able to help us ensure your child's and your own safety.
